How to transfer your hosting to IDS Hosting with no downtime

Message

Transfer your hosting to IDS Hosting with ease & no site down time.

You can switch hosts without any down time and no noticeable changes visible from the user.

  1. Find the host you want to change to ... we obviously recommend IDS Hosting .... Do not cancel your previous hosting account or give any indication you will be moving your site away, as this might cause your existing host to terminate your account and we do not want that to happen yet.

  2. Open an account with IDS Hosting, so you now have two accounts with two hosts, not a problem! Back up your site on the old host and restore it via your Pc to the new host. Should this be a problem please contact us, but there is plenty of online information and information on IDS Hosting on how to do this. you could either back the site up via your cPanel if your old site has a cPanel format, or via your FTP software such as FileZilla. Log into your new IDS site via your FTP program using the information in your welcome email, and copy your files onto the new site. If there is a data base it would be better to back the site up via your cPanel.

  3. When all your files have been moved to our server (or the new server you have chosen) you need to point your domain to the new server you have just uploaded your files to. At this point your old site is still fully online. Contact your domain registrar and ask them to redirect your domain to your new hosts DNS (Domain Name Server) this will be found on your welcome email entitled: New Account Information, in the case where you are moving to IDS servers, else contact your new hosting company for the nameservs for your new hosting package. Some registrars allow you to change the NS via an admin area they give you access to, but the South African CO.ZA registrar, Uniforum needs to be updated via an automated plain text email. Please contact us for more info on this.

If you have any questions please contact us and we can assist you, or even make the DNS changes for you.

  4. After the changes have been made by your registrar, who will let you know via email that the changes have been updated, you will need to wait about 48 hours for the entire process to be updated worldwide. During this time some of your visitors will still go to your old site and some will go to your new site, until after 48 hours all your visitors will be going to your new site.

  5. 48 hours later you can contact your old host and terminate your account with them, and pay any outstanding fees, which is the right thing to do.

At this time you are now being hosted by a new Hosting company, hopefully IDS Hosting ...

Note: If your old site has a database, you need to take a few more steps. Please contact us if you need some assistance here.
